5 Key Steps to Certification

Becoming a CIS certified professional requires specific qualifications, but the process to apply is simple.

  1. Be a member of CIS in good standing.
    If you are not already an associate member of the CIS body of certified professionals, you must first become a member to pursue CIS credentials. Learn more about pricing and purchase options.
  2. Attend the CIS approved curriculum course(s) required for your desired certification.Training is available online and in live classrooms.
  3. Submit your professional endorsements and proof of required experience.
    Submit any required CIS Candidate Endorsement Forms to the Certification Department at CIS Headquarters.  Your completed forms and other documentation can be mailed, transmitted by facsimile, or e-mailed to:

  4. Pass the CIS Exam(s).
    CIS exams are administered on-line and can be taken at your convenience at your home or work. Your progress and score are monitored and recorded centrally through our online learning center. Your exam results are provided automatically upon completion of your exam.
  5. Gain final approval from the certification committee and become certified by CIS.
    You will officially become certified once your exam and credentials are approved by the certification committee. Your certification kit will be mailed to you at the address you entered for your membership account. Those who have attained a CIS credential will be invoiced for certification renewal upon annual membership renewal.
